The first game against each other

Sheffield Eagles and Featherstone Rovers played each other for the first time on 22nd November 1987, during the Eagles fourth season, when they played in red and gold for the first time.

The game against Featherstone was home at Owlerton Stadium and was a 10-10 draw with tries from Mark Gamson and David Nelson, and a goal from David Close. Featherstone went on to win the league that season but after the draw the Eagles won seven of their next eight games, finishing 5th, their highest league position to that point.
