Sheffield Eagles v Halifax Panthers
On Sunday 5th February the Sheffield Eagles played their first competitive game of 2023, away to Halifax Panthers.
We look back to the time that Sheffield Eagles and Halifax first played each other on 11th September 1992.
The first game against each other
Sheffield Eagles and Halifax RLFC didn't play each other until the Eagles 9th season (1992 - 93) and ended up playing three times that season. Once in the Yorkshire Cup and twice in the league, with the Eagles only winning the Cup match.
That first game - in the Yorkshire Cup - was on 11th September 1992 and was played at Don Valley Stadium in front of a crowd of 3,596.
The Eagles team that day was: Garry Jack, Mark Gamson, Daryl Powell, David Mycoe, David Plange, Richard Price, Mark Aston, Paul Broadbent, Mick Cook, Dale Laughton, Bruce McGuire, Paul Carr, Anthony Farrell, Neil James and Ian Hughes. David Plange scored three tries that day with one each from Ian Hughes, Garry Jack and David Mycoe, with Mark Aston scoring five goals.
Hall of Fame
