Sheffield Eagles v Swinton Lions
On Sunday 2nd July the Sheffield Eagles played their next game of the 2023 season, away to Swinton Lions
The Eagles have already played Swinton this season, so we look back to the second time that the teams ever played each other.
The second game against each other
Sheffield Eagles and Swinton Lions played each other for the second time on 29th March 1985, towards the end of the Eagles' first season. It was a home game, but as to what was to become a theme throughout the life of the Sheffield Eagles it was played at Millmoor, the home of Rotherham United. The Eagles's home ground Owlerton was needed that day for a stock car meeting so the game was moved to Rotherham and a Friday night. Another piece of history as it was the first time a game of rugby had been played at Millmoor, in front of a crowd of 1,146. The Eagles ended up losing the game 34-2 with the only points coming from Roy Rafferty.
