Ian Swire

Ian was added to the Roll of Honour 2020 for his role as chair of the Club for 17 years.

Ian Swire

Ian Swire was instrumental in creating the “new” Sheffield Eagles after the merger in 1999. Ian is originally from St Helens and was brought up on rugby league. After studying at university in Sheffield he stayed in the City and became aware of the Sheffield Eagles. He started watching them on a regular basis, before, as his career progressed, he started sponsoring them. His involvement and that of his family grew. Following the merger he stepped in to offer help with his financial background to draw up a business plan and put in place the structure for a new club. He subsequently become Chair of The Club for 17 years and was instrumental in its resurrection, growth and survival. Without his commitment to The Club, whether through his time, or financially then there wouldn’t be a Sheffield Eagles today. Following his retirement he continues to be an ardent Eagles supporter– which at heart is what he has always been.
